Jadeite, of rectangular form, with sloping shoulders to a neck with slightly concave mouth, well hollowed and with a neatly carved footrim, the stone of vivid mottled emerald green tone.


Possibly imperial, attributed to the Palace Workshops, Beijing.

There is a series of white nephrite bottles of exactly this form, of which one is in the Bloch Collection. Their simple form belies the superb craftsmanship that has gone into their manufacture. In the majority of cases the mouths of these bottles are very small, illustrating the technical skill required to hollow out a bottle to the degree shown here.
