Soapstone, of flattened pear shape, with shoulders sloping to a cylindrical neck and with a slightly concave foot, the opaque stone of a mottled rich orange color.

This is one of a small group of soapstone bottles fashioned from a similar range of material.  They are always left plain, usually of small, compressed ovoid forms and probably date from the early nineteenth century.  This example is an unusually even color and with evenly spaced flecking of darker inclusions running throughout the translucent stone.
